UntilSafe Safety Limitations
A check-in aid, not a safety service.
Last updated August 27, 2026
Immediate danger? Leave when it is safe to do so and call 911 or the appropriate local emergency service. Do not wait for UntilSafe, a trusted contact, or an automated message.
UntilSafe does not provide
- 911, law enforcement, emergency dispatch, an alarm company, a personal emergency response service, live human monitoring, or a guarantee that anyone is safe.
- Background location tracking, identity verification, background checks, transportation, medical advice, rescue, or an investigation of the person being met.
- Listening or spoken-code-word detection. UntilSafe does not record, transcribe, or recognize speech; the short call accepts keypad input only.
- A guarantee that a notification, text, call, or trusted contact will be available, delivered, seen, understood, or acted upon.
How the scheduled check-in works
- The server uses the time the user scheduled. A device notification is only a reminder and is never proof that the user is okay.
- A three-minute grace period gives the user time to enter a private PIN after the scheduled check-in time.
- If no valid app response arrives, UntilSafe may attempt a short automated companion call and collect a keypad entry.
- A duress entry, no valid response, or certain delivery failures can trigger a neutral notification attempt to the independently accepted trusted contact.
- UntilSafe never automatically contacts 911 or another emergency service.
Ways the service can fail
- No signal, low battery, a powered-off or silenced phone, blocked caller, spam filtering, voicemail, disabled notifications, or a changed telephone number.
- Internet, cloud, database, carrier, push, billing, or software outage, delay, configuration mistake, or provider limit.
- An incorrect schedule, time zone, meeting place, alias, PIN, or trusted-contact number.
- A trusted contact who is unavailable, misunderstands the message, or is unable or unwilling to act.
- A PIN that is entered incorrectly, guessed, disclosed, or entered by someone else.
Use several precautions
Meet in public, control transportation, tell another person the plan directly, keep the phone charged, protect PINs, trust personal judgment, and leave whenever uncomfortable. Rehearse the UntilSafe flow before using it as one optional part of a broader plan.
Support is not monitoring
Support cannot see or monitor an active situation and is not an urgent-response channel. For a non-urgent product question, visit UntilSafe Support.
